The New Jersey Surge opened the 2012-2013 season with a tilt against the Long Island 495ers. Last season the 495ers Elite team went 24-0.

The Minor team opend up with two of its four games with two hard-fought losses against the 495ers Red team; 4-3 & 6-2. Led by Jeff Turner's, Ryan Hallock's and Rob Cacioppo's two points each they turned out a respectable performance.  Justin Teats made 14 saves in game one while Jay Kalwa made 15 saves in game two.

The Elites followed with two losses; 8-4 & 5-1. Ian McLoughlin & Alex Fey each had 2 points in the defeats. Jamie Mendelsohn had 14 saves in game one while Kyle Daloisio had 24 in the second game.

The Minors then had two games against the 495ers Blue team dropping both of those games; 4-1 & 5-2. Ryan Hallock added his third point of the season while Justin Teats made 15 saves in game one and Jay Kalwa made 19 saves in game two.

Next up: Road trip to face the 3-4 New York Terror at World Gym on Long Island. The NJ Surge then return home for two Elite games against the NY Terror on February 2nd at 6:30pm & 7:30pm.
The New Jersey Surge made key additions to their Elite and Minor squads for the upcoming season.

The Elites added vetereans Gene Gsell at forward, Chris Danish at Defense, and goalie Kyle Daloisio and added a returning Surge player from two seasons ago, forward Arek Fryzlewicz. Unfortunately an ijury struck down one of our new players, Defensman Jim McGrath before he could skate for the Surge. We wish him well and hope he gets better soon. Returning forwards Ian McLoughlin, Alex Fey, Scott Goodman, and team captain Chris Havelock plus defensemen Pat Wlazel and reigning AIHL NE Div Defenseman of the Year Justin Guzman join veteran goalie Jamie Mendelsohn and Minor promotee John Carlson to round out the roster.

At Minor, Jeff Turner returns from his two year hiatus with the NJ Grizzlies and Parker Murray, a defenseman for the Elite squad last season comes down to provide a veteran presence to the Minor squad.  Also returning from a one year break is forward Steve Abrahamsen. Forwards Kyle Edgar, Ryan Hallock, Rob Cacioppo, and converted defenseman Chris D'amico plus defensemen Joe Wendowlowski, Max Jones, and team captain Pete Maggio all retun from last years team. Justin Teats and Jay Kalwa are our returning goaltenders while Joe Demers, a forward, and Stefano Yanuzzi, a goaltender, round out the team as rookies.
